SME Has Successfully Held the Open Day Activity of 2020 Autumn Semester

The new semester comes with fresh blood, and the beautiful campus of Southern University of Science and Technology is full of vitality. At the time when the undergraduates of Class 2019 are about to choose their major, the open day activity of School of Microelectronics begun as scheduled on the afternoon of September 2.

At 4:30 p.m., a group of vigorous students appeared at Gate 6 of Southern University of Science and Technology. More than 100 students actively participated in the open day activity of School of Microelectronics. They took the shuttle bus from the School to the Office & Scientific Research Area of School of Microelectronics - Chongwen Zhiyuan Campus. As soon as they got off the bus, they were full of curiosity about the new place and the school they are going to.

At 5 pm, the activity started. Yu Hongyu, the dean of School of Microelectronics, Zhou Shengming, the deputy dean, and Professor Pan Quan, Li Xiexi, Chen Quan, Gao Yuan, Li Yi, Guo Yuejin and Lin Yuanjing and other teacher representatives participated in the activity. The activity was presided over by Professor Pan Quan.

Pro. Hongyu, the dean, delivered a speech. On behalf of the School, he extended a warm welcome to the students of Class 2019 and a few students of Class 2020 who participated actively in the open day activity. He also introduced in detail to the students the basic situation of the positioning, talent training and scientific research layout of School of Microelectronics. Mr. Yu Hongyu, the dean, encouraged the students to actively participate in the field of "Chip Technology" and contribute to the development of industries having strategic importance in our country. After the introduction, the students actively asked questions to Professor Yu Hongyu and professor answered their questions patiently. Both professors and students showed great enthusiastic during the Q & A session, and there was always cheery applause from time to time.

After the introduction, Mr. Zhou Shengming, the deputy dean, introduced the employment prospects and innovation and entrepreneurship of microelectronics major in detail from the perspective of the development characteristics of integrated circuit industry in Shenzhen. He wished the students with dreams, aspirations and feelings to make great achievements in the field of integrated circuits. Then, Professor Pan Quan and Professor Chen Quan gave a general introduction about the faculty of microelectronics major and School of Microelectronics.

After enjoying the speech by the four academic professionals, the delicious tea break carefully prepared by the School made the students more contented. After tea break, the students also had a face-to-face communication with the professors through which they had a more comprehensive understanding of the School of Microelectronics.

During the visit to the exhibition hall, led by Professor Pan Quan, Professor Zhan Chenchang and Professor Cui Dehu, the students visited the frontier research and development achievements of various research directions in the "Chip Technology" Exhibition Hall of the School closely. Through visiting and studying, the students had a preliminary understanding of the frontier technology of the current integrated circuit industry.

After that, they were divided into four teams to go to the chip laboratories of various research directions for a closer look. The senior students in the laboratories introduced in detail the research direction, the instruments and equipment used and the on-going research projects of their research group. The whole laboratory visit lasted nearly one and a half hours. At 9:30 pm, the activity came to an end even though students didn't want to finish and the bus carried the students back to the campus again.

Everyone looks a little tired after five hours' activity, but the rich contents and a lot of knowledge obtained during the activity also made the students feel contented. We look forward to seeing these familiar future talents in the field of "Chip Technology" again at the opening class meeting in the new semester!
