CPPCC Vice Chairman visits SUSTech

Friday afternoon saw Wan Gang, the Vice Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the chairman of Zhi Gong party and the president of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). President Chen Shiyi accompanied the delegation on their investigation of SUSTech.

Wan Gang and his entourage visited the Shenzhen Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute to learn about its development. This was then followed by a discussion at Taizhou Hall.

During the discussion, Chen Shiyi spoke about SUSTech’s development, speaking specifically about its academic characteristics, discipline development, faculty members and scientific research. He highlighted scientific research platforms such as the SUSTech-HKUST Joint School of Microelectronics and the Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering.

Chen Shiyi said that SUSTech’s development had received strong support from Guangdong Province, and will play an active role in promoting industrial development, cooperation and educational innovation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the future.

Wan Gang fully affirmed SUSTech’s rapid development and recent achievements. He focused on the Shenzhen Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute.

Wan Gang hoped that SUSTech would continue to strengthen the necessary research and the development of its faculty. He anticipated that SUSTech would actively promote research and development to carry out core technologies in critical areas to solve major scientific and technological problems in China in nationally strategic areas.

Yu Hongyu, executive director of the SUSTech-HKUST Joint School of Microelectronics, reported on its construction. Deputy Director Zhao Yuhai and Vice President Wu Ling of the Shenzhen Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute both briefed the delegation about the Shenzhen Third Generation Semiconductor Research Institute.

Following the meeting, Wan Gang and his deputation visited the Shenzhen SUSTech Fuel Cell Electric Reactor Engineering Laboratory. Officials from various government bodies, party organizations and SUSTech leaders attended the forum.
