Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted a Seminar on Semiconductor Chip Laboratory Preparations (Seminar). SUSTech School of Microelectronics Dean Yu Hongyu and Acting Vice President Zhao Yusheng were joined by Xidian University School of Microelectronics Dean Zhang Yuming and National Nuclear High-level Special Expert Group expert Li Yungang. Other attendees included officials from Nanshan District and Shenzhen City, leaders from other Shenzhen-centered universities, executives of different industry groups along with more than 30 scholars. Professor Yu Hongyu chaired the seminar.
SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhao Yusheng welcomed the attendees, saying that under the promotion of the Greater Bay Area and the State Council Statement on Shenzhen, SUSTech has taken the responsibility of working towards the development of China’s integrated circuit (IC) industry. Setting up a semiconductor chip laboratory creates an innovative road for SUSTech and the Greater Bay Area that will further promote the research and development of IC in China.
School of Microelectronics Dean Yu Hongyu talked about the development of the semiconductor chip laboratory, before introducing the background and future plans for the laboratory. In the following roundtable discussion session, experts conducted a series of exchanges about the direction of the laboratory.
Xidian University Dean Zhang Yuming said that the construction of the semiconductor chip laboratory comes from a solid industrial base with excellent scientific research advantages. He recommended that the laboratory should further consolidate and remain innovative in its research directions.
National Nuclear High-level Special Expert Group expert Li Yungang said that developing a high-end IC talent pipeline is important for promoting laboratory construction. He stressed the importance of attracting high-level talents for top industry-university research platforms that integrates enterprises like Huawei & ZTE with universities.
FocalTech Systems Co., Ltd President Hu Zhengda said that establishing IC laboratories will improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of technological development.
