In order to promote cooperation and exchanges with renowned universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, expand students’ vision in scientific research, and provide them with an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of renowned universities, the School of Microelectronics has carried out a series of university visits and exchanges in the summer. Following a trip to HKUST a few days ago, the school launched its second summer university trip on August 5, 2019, to the University of Macau.
Luckily, with the typhoon that lasted for several days gone, a group of students hopped on the bus on the morning of August 5. At 8 a.m., with our teachers Zhan Chenchang, Pan Quan, Wang Qing and Chen Wenjing and started their trip to the University of Macau.
Although it was a long journey and it was already noon when they arrived at the University of Macau, the students were still highly enthusiastic. The magnificent buildings, the green plants and wetlands in the University of Macau made it difficult for the students to hide their excitement and admiration. They immediately took a group photo in front of the Wu Yee Sun Library of the University of Macau.
After lunch, the visit officially began. The students were honored to visit the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI led by Professor Pui-In Mak of the University of Macau. Professor Mak, the current deputy director of the State Key Laboratory for Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI, introduced the basic situation of the Institute of Microelectronics, University of Macau, showed its representative achievements, and brought the students to visit the laboratory while introducing the scientific research projects. In addition to the traditional research directions of microelectronics, there are also cross-disciplinary research projects of electronics, such as the development of biomedical chips through cross-disciplinary research of biological, chemical and electronic knowledge. A series of cutting-edge scientific research projects enriched the students' knowledge.
Visiting the laboratory
After visiting the laboratory, the students took a break at the rest area. During this period, Professor Mak asked about the students' intention to further their studies after graduation and was impressed by their development prospects. Meanwhile, he extended warm welcomes to students who will further their studies at the University of Macau.
Later, the students visited a variety of public facilities of the university, such as the gymnasium and the library. The buildings of the university are not only unique in appearance and atmosphere, the design of internal facilities are also very considerate. The convenient self-service drinking fountains and automatic retrieval machines in the library all reflect the humanized aspect of the design.
The unique and beautiful learning environment of the University of Macau affected the students, and its advanced scientific research facilities broadened the students' horizon and provided them with a deeper understanding of microelectronics researches. This visit to the University of Macau was truly a fruitful trip.
