From Sep 18 to 20, Huawei Connect (HC) was held at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center and Shanghai World Expo Center. Nearly 30,000 people from different segments of the global ICT industry attended the HC. Professor Yu Hao of the School of Microelectronics and students of his research group were invited to this event.

Huawei officially launched the strategic layout for Ascend and Fertile Soil AI New Engineering Project. It has signed cooperation contracts with many universities to work together in carrying out research and practice on new engineering, and has carried out in-depth cooperation with the universities in three types of industry-university cooperative talent fostering programs, including teaching content, curriculum system reform and teacher training. Professor Yu Hao's AI chip design course became the "leader" of the cooperation between the Southern University of Science and Technology and Huawei in the new engineering project.

The humanoid robots created jointly by graduate students Ren Hongwei, Liu Bin, undergraduate student Deng Guihang and Huawei were exhibited at the HC. The robot combines UBTECH’s Yanshee with Huawei's Atlas200DK to achieve such functions as object recognition and obstacle avoidance. Huawei's Atlas has super computing power. Based on Huawei's Ascend series AI processors, a single chip can provide the super computing power of 16TOPS@INT8 and support real-time analysis of 16 channels of high definition video, with the power consumption of less than 8W. The cooperation between Huawei and the School of Microelectronics, SUSTech is an important strategy to build the ecosystem of Huawei Atlas AI computing platform.
