Message from the President

    Integrated circuit is the kernel of information technology industry as well as the basis and the core to promote the in-depth integration of information technology and industrialization and realize “Made in China 2025”. The School of Microelectronics, Southern University of Science and Technology is situated at Shenzhen, the heart of integrated circuit industry. Since its inception, the School has been shouldering the responsibility of training microelectronics professionals and providing intellectual support and technological guidance for the high-quality growth and leapfrog development of semiconductor industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The new era brings with new missions, and a new journey calls for new actions. Integrated circuit industry has become a key strategic industry in China. Facing the overall strategic situation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the School of Microelectronics should make great efforts along with establishing the first—level discipline of “Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering” to make positive contributions to solving the “stranglehold” problems of key and core technologies. Being rooted in the land of China, the School is cultivating outstanding talents of integrated circuit for the country. Besides strengthening the basic researches, the School is closely focusing on the major strategic needs of the country to arrange a good prospective layout of technology, so as to make outstanding contributions to the innovation and leapfrog development of China's integrated circuit industry.

I am very glad to hear that the School of Microelectronics has been listed as a national exemplary school of microelectronics. This is an exciting news for all teachers and students of the university. I hope that the School of Microelectronics will use this opportunity to take root in the Greater Bay Area and align to the standards of microelectronics schools in top universities world-wide. I also hope that serving the local economy and the development of the integrated circuit industry will serve as the guidance to carry out in-depth IUR cooperation in education, explore diversified talent fostering modes, cultivate a group of top innovative talent in microelectronics urgently needed by the industry, serve the strategic needs of the development of the national microelectronics industry, and build a high-level, international and research-oriented national exemplary school of microelectronics as soon as possible.
